Furnace Operator - 3rd Shift (Sign-On Bonus!)

Key Job
Responsibilities:

Responsible for charging the furnace with metal, melting the metal, and pouring it into a second furnace while maintaining specified temperatures to manufacture welding rod.

Monitor computerized controls involving temperatures.

Check material weights for correct value.

Perform and document the operation of the furnaces.

Must keep area stocked and cleaned.

Key Job Accountabilities:

Job performed without constant supervision.
Incumbents are responsible for the furnace performance.

Commitment to working safely and understand all safety procedures.

Deviations in routine are handled according to operating procedures and/or work instructions.

Operator responsible for following inspection control plan, assuring product is processed according to proper routings, specifications and the quantity and style are correct.

Work to meet daily departmental production goals.

Must be reliable and dependable.

Communicate safety, quality, and product issues with supervisor, team members, and across shifts.

Supervisors must be notified of any deviation from operating procedures.

Knowledge and Skills:

Understand oral and written communications and instructions.

Must be able to do basic math.

Need to be able to communicate effectively with supervisors and co-workers.

Must be able to read and understand operating procedures.

Knowledge and ability to perform necessary actions in emergency situations such as power outages, etc.

Proficiency reached through on the job training in three to six months.

Problem Solving:

Solve furnace-related problems by using learned knowledge and reasoning skills and by consulting supervisors and co-workers.

Physical Demands:

Frequent standing, 8
hours a day, intermittent walking, occasional reaching, bending, kneeling and squatting with break opportunities.

Lifting objects weighing an average of twenty pounds (some reaching as much as, but not more than, thirty-three (33) pounds).

Will be required to pass a Respirator Medical Evaluation

Work Environment:

Potentially dangerous environment working around high-temperature furnaces.

Dust collection and system in place.

Safety glasses with side shields and safety shoes required.

Education/
Experience:

GED or High School Diploma.
